Finger Could Reach Career Milestone on Opening Night

Jeff Finger

Love him or hate him, Jeff Finger has been a solid defenceman over his entire four-year National Hockey League career. That will be made even more clear if Jeff Finger ends up starting the season in the lineup, whether it’s with the Maple Leafs or not.

If he does start for a NHL team on opening night, Finger will reach one of his biggest career milestones to date; his 200th career game.

Finger, who is one of the most hated Maple Leafs players by their fans, has been playing for the Maple Leafs over the last two seasons appearing in 105 games for the blue and white.

Before signing a four-year, $14 million contract with the Maple Leafs in the summer of 2008, the 30-year-old played two seasons (94 games) with the Colorado Avalanche.

It wasn’t until Finger was age 25 that he made the NHL. He split time between the Hershey Bears and Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL and the Reading Royals of the ECHL from 2003-04 to 2005-06 before beginning his NHL career with Colorado in 2006-07.

In 199 career regular season games, Finger has scored 17 goals while adding 40 assists for a total of 57 points. In just five career playoff games, he has two assists and a +/- rating of -2. Finger is set to make $3.5 million this coming season and just as much in 2011-12. He has been linked to multiple trade rumors while also being heavily scrutinized by Maple Leafs fans and media.
